From Tucson, the drive
east to Benson down through the San Pedro
River Valley, and through Texas Canyon
is beautiful and diverse. It is easy to picture the Spanish Explorers
coming up the San Pedro River Valley. As one drives from Willcox,
south to the Chiricahua Mountains,
you can imagine Geronimo and Cochise
climbing and riding among these beautiful formations. Geronimo was
a leader of the Chiricahua Apaches, and he was
born near Turkey Creek. Jonny Ringo, from Tombstone,
was shot in Turkey Creek Canyon. As you cross Turkey Creek, and
head west toward the Dragoon Mountains, you can see Cochise's Stronghold
near Sunsites, AZ.
As you look out into the distance in Tombstone,
it is easy to image that Wyatt Earp, Doc
Holiday, and the Clanton Gang, saw the
same American Southwest beauty, much as it appears today.
We will be adding more information, photos, and videos
to this site as we ourselves explore the towns of Tombstone,
Bisbee, Sierra
Vista, and Douglas, and even
some of Cochise
County's Ghost Towns. Our hope is to share the endless beauty
and places of interest in Southeastern Arizona's Historic
Cochise County, on this site. Explore
Cochise calls this area "The Land of Legends"
(fun flash presentation). That is a great observation.
The Legends included, Wyatt Earp,
Cochise, Geronimo,
Jimmy
"Santiago" McKinn, John
Slaughter, Doc
Holliday, Bat
Masterson, Pancho
Villa, Coronado,
Rex Allen, the Buffalo
Soldiers, and many more. Be sure to view our many pictures
of Cochise County above.
